我最早的回忆是在30年前的床上，自己还是一双小手的时候的，那时我的手放在阿嫲的手里，常常是阿嫲已经睡着，而睡不着的我抚摸着她的手，想着该如何永远占有它，甚至我还提出过让阿嫲把她的手送给我的请求。现在那双小手变成躺在旁边小孩的手，“老嬷去哪里了？”孩子问我。老嬷是我的阿嫲。阿嫲的葬礼是在东村的清晨，我不知道人群是怎么装点成队伍的，我被队伍推着去往村口的方向，有人指挥停下，阿嫲的照片和棺材摆在路中间，照片里的阿嫲有些陌生，眉宇之间有一丝笑意，大概是软件处理的痕迹。最后一次跪拜后，人们慌忙扯开头巾，折一枝早就放在一边的神树叶和竹子叶，再扔到地上，这时队伍已不成形，阿嫲在东村活了70年，照片和棺材被装上一辆面包车，驾驶出了东村。顺着时间回忆，会带来强烈的眩晕。而如果时间不是一条直线，我该如何回答“老嫲去了哪里？”
带着这样的问题，我在阿嫲留的一张空荡荡的床上搭建一个布偶戏台，并邀请了东村的几个妇女一起制作布偶。我还不知道“东村新妇实验剧团”会演什么样的戏，东村的妇女们大都没有离开过东村，她们照顾两个甚至更多的孩子，有时候还需要照顾其他的家庭成员，忙忙碌碌中，我们约好定期一起做手工，制作自己的人形布偶。

Grandma's funeral took place in the early morning in the East Village of Chaoshan.I don't recall how the crowd formed into a procession;I was pushed along towards the village entrance.Someone directed us to halt,and there in the middle of the road lay Grandma's photo and cofin.The Grandma in the photo seemed somewhat unfamiliar,with a hint of a smile between her brows,likely a trace of digital enhancement.After a final bow,people hurriedly unwrapped their headscarves,plucked some leaves from the sacred banyan tree and bamboo that had long been set aside,and scattered them on the ground.By then,the procession had lost its form.Grandma had lived seventy years in East Village.Her photo and coffin were loaded onto a van and driven out of East Village.Recollecting along the timeline brings about a strong dizziness.And if time isn't a straight line,how should I answer,"Where did Grandma go? With such questions in mind,I constructed a puppet theater on the empty bed left by Grandma.It's a new village reality parallel to village reality.And I invited several women from East village to make puppets together.The term "new brides"comes from the Bible."And I saw the holy city,new Jerusalem,coming down out of heaven from God,prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."(Revelation 21:2 ESV),I don't know what kind of plays this "New East Village New Bride Experimental Theater"will perform.Most women in East Village have never left Chaoshan;they care for two or even more children and sometimes need to look after other family members.Amidst the hustle and bustle,we agreed to do handicrafts together to make our own doll figures.
